Welcome to A White Nest: Our Story
There’s something sacred about working with your hands.
The soy wax melting on the stove, the texture of raw clay between your fingers, the soft pull of yarn through a loom—these simple moments of creation hold a kind of quiet magic. A White Nest was born from that magic, from a love of craft, nature, and a lifelong connection to making.
We’re Emily and Karen, a mother and daughter team based along the beautiful Tobique River in Tobique Narrows, New Brunswick. Our business officially began in 2017, but our story as makers started long before that. Growing up in a family where someone was always building, stitching, baking, or carving, creating with our hands felt as natural as breathing.
In 2014, a new “old” loom came into our lives, and it quickly became our next big project. We taught ourselves to weave, drawn to the idea of crafting textiles the traditional way—just like our great-great-grandmother once did. Only ours would carry a more modern, minimal feel, while still being made one string at a time. By 2015, with woven tea towels and blankets piling up, we opened a small shop at our home, tucked along the riverbank. Karen was making pottery, Emily was weaving, and together we began to dream even bigger.
Soon, candles joined the shelves, along with soaps, and even some of our families woodwork. Our collection grew—handmade, heartfelt, and rooted in tradition. We began selling at local markets, building relationships, taking chances, and slowly shaping A White Nest into what it is today.
At its heart, A White Nest is about connection: to the land, to tradition, and to each other. We help one another constantly—this business wouldn’t be what it is without the back-and-forth collaboration between us.
We’re so glad you’re here. This blog is a space for sharing more of our story—behind-the-scenes moments, product highlights, thoughts on slow living, and little peeks into our world as makers.
Thank you for being part of this nest.
